Assignment: Write a press release for Open House

Alameda Point - October 28, 1998 - A year-and-a-half after the formal closure of Alameda Naval Air Station, the Base Reuse Advisory Group is hosting the first annual Open House at Alameda Point. On November 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the community is invited to come and see the progress that has been made in converting the former base, view plans for future development, and meet the growing community of new tenants.

The lobby of Building One will be the site of Alameda's Recycled Art Invitational Show '98 and a free artists' reception. Displays in Building One include plans for the Alameda Naval Air and Western Aerospace Museum, the links-style golf course, and the sports complex. Catellus will display designs for the exciting new business park and housing development projects. The Homeless Collaborative will be available to answer questions and clear up misconceptions on the 250 housing units that will phase in by July 2000. The Navy environmental team will also provide information about ongoing cleanup efforts at the former base.

Citizens are invited to discover more about the planned Alameda National Wildlife Refuge from the Fish and Wildlife Service and Friends of the Refuge with a display, photographs, information, and hands-on activities.
